vancouver, bc

July 31, 2008

So i’ve been here in BC for a few days now but today was the day i actually got out and took some piccies. We hit the Capilano Suspension bridge despite it being a little wet and cloudy. But it was fun!
Last night we went to the beach for the Celebration of lights, so here is a few pics from the last day and half.

PS, the suspension bridge sways 250ft from the ground and is around 450ft long. Just to give you an idea of how high we are! :) this last picture was taken at the very end of one side.

multnomah falls, OR

July 30, 2008

Late last week i headed out to the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon and checked out the Multnomah Falls. I visited the falls in 2003 when i was in OR last but it was winter then, so wanted to check them out during the summer. There were LOTS of people doing the same… We started with a late breakfast, early lunch in the restaurant just next to the falls, then we headed up the path to the lookout. So pretty and green in the Summer.

I’m now in Vancouver BC for a couple of days before I head East to Edmonton then down to PA for a friends wedding. So i hope to have some pictures from the wedding up in 2 or so weeks. Be sure to come by and check for updates!

the dog story…

July 30, 2008

Ok so you’ve been waiting long enough. Its not as funny or scary to me now… but for a few days it was.
Anyway, as i mentioned in the post the other day i had an “experience” with a couple of Pitbulls. It was Sunday night when i was moving over to stay with my friend Ashley and her family, we got to the house, and i proceded to roll my bags into the house when Lily (grey one) decided she didn’t really like me. She started growl and bark a little. I continued through to the room i was staying, and a few minutes later came back out to the living room. To my surprise Lily wasn’t liking me being in her house much so my friend Ashley and i tried to allow her to pet her… but she kept pulling back, so i left it at that. Thinking maybe in the morning she will be ok. Anyway, day 2… i woke up and the dogs were outside, so i was able to be in and around the house all day. BUT, in the afternoon i fell asleep on the bed and when i woke up i needed to go to the bathroom, so walked literally across the hall, shut the door… and thats when i heard it. Lily was not a happy pitbull! Noone was home except me, the family had gone out for the afternoon, i was home alone, with the dogs inside. I tried to go out of the bathroom, but everytime i opened the door she was growling. So i waited…. trying to figure out how to deal with the situation. Knowing in my head that Pitbulls have a reputation for agressive behaviour, also knowing that they were very well trained dogs. So… i was stuck… what to do!? Thankfully, i heard the front door open. Ashley’s brother came home. He tended to the dogs while i emerged from the bathroom. Lily still didn’t like me and was growling. But Avery dealt with her. A little while later I decided i would try my luck at going to the living room, Avery was in watching TV and i sat on a couch… the dogs were laying on their rug, and barely moved!
That night i got home late, and the dogs were outside… the following morning i think Lily came around and realised i was a friend not food. She didn’t growl again, she would come to me for a pet everytime i was in the house…

All this said, i’ve never had a pet in my life… so i’ve never been experienced in how to relate to dogs. I put this situation down to being a stranger (to the dogs) in their house. And Lily felt she had to protect her house. So… all that said, here is a pic of Lily (grey) and Ryker (brown & white)!

Heya, so my friends here in OR took me to check out the Portland Japanese Gardens yesterday and they were fantastic… sadly we didn’t allow enough time to really soak up the peacefulness but, the time we did spend there was very relaxing! Here are a couple of pics… enjoy!

PS, the dog story will come…
